Daniel Veloso

Daniel Veloso (Lisbon, 1993) studied Communication Sciences and graduated from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The insights of professor José Manuel Costa’s classes shaped his decision to pursue film studies.

Since then, the frequent attendance at Portuguese Cinematheque is a key element of his education.

In 2015, Daniel made his first short film within the framework of the film master’s degree he attended at the same university. He also did some research on the act of directing in the works of Pedro Costa and Abbas Kiarostami.

Between 2014 and 2017, he worked as an assistant director, assistant camera and production assistant in films by directors such as Inês Oliveira and Edgar Pêra.

He lived all his childhood and adolescence in the county of Amadora. The ties of friendship
lead him to film the process of eradicating the Estrela d’África neighborhood. Damaia dj’acaba ma inda nu sta pa li, a documentary co-directed with Sofia Lemos Marques, premiered in Verdes Anos section of Doclisboa 2016.

In 2017 he directs _Hoji nu sta li, manhã nu ca sta _(21º Luso-Brazilian Film Festival of Santa Maria da Feira), a short film that focuses on the daily life of the last inhabitant of the Estrela d’África neighborhood.

Fog is his first short fiction film.
